At Medikro, we often receive inquiries about the proper cleaning and maintenance of our spirometers and accessories. To address these concerns, we have put together an overview of our recommendations to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our products during spirometry.
Medikro Spirometers
Pro, Primo, Nano
No cleaning or disinfection needed.
Duo
Clean the outer surface area of Medikro spirometer after each patient use. The following agents are compatible with the Medikro spirometer:
- 70 percent isopropyl alcohol
- 10 percent chlorine bleach solution
Note: Disinfect according to your facility's protocols and standards or local regulations.
Accessories
Pressure tubes
Medikro's pressure tubes are designed for multiple uses without the need for cleaning. We recommend checking the pressure tube at the beginning of the work shift and replacing it if it is leaking or unclean. It is recommended to change the pressure tube after 300 patients or four times a year.
During the usage the pressure tubes are protected from contamination by the construction of our unique SpiroSafe flow transducers. Thanks to an air buffer inside the flow transducer measurement pipe, expired air and aerosols do not enter the pressure tubing, even during high flow rates (14 l/s) and repeated spirometry efforts. As a result, no cleaning is needed or recommended for the pressure tubes, ensuring the accuracy of measurements is maintained.
Medikro Grip
Clean the grip on a routine basis. The following agents are compatible with the patient grip:
• 70 % isopropyl alcohol
• 10 % chlorine bleach solution
• 55-60 % ethanol
Consumables
Our consumables, including SpiroSafe flow transducers, bacterial & viral filters, and nose clips, are designed for single-use only. These items should never be reused, as doing so may compromise their safety and effectiveness. Once a consumable has served its purpose, dispose of it properly according to local regulations. Medikro spirometry systems use disposable flow transducers to prevent patient-to-patient cross-contamination through the sensor. By changing the flow transducer, there is no need for additional sensor cleaning or sterilization. Additionally we recommend using Medikro Grip handles that can be changed between patients to help prevent the possibility of cross-contamination.
For detailed information on usage, care, and maintenance, always refer to the Spirometer User's Manual, which is the main source of official manufacturer recommendations. The manual is available in multiple languages here.
