Calibration check forms an essential part of good laboratory practice. With the calibration check you can test if the system is accurate. The calibration check should be done daily as outlined in the ATS and ERS recommendations. Typically, the calibration check is performed when the spirometer system is switched on, but find below the detailed list of all possible situations, when calibration check is recommended.
The new linearization file or calibration code must be given before the performance, we explain below, how to find the calibration code from the packaging of SpiroSafe. The calibration check does not affect to calibration. Calibration check is recommended for Medikro Pro, Medikro Nano or Medikro Primo spirometers.
This article covers the following topics:
1. When do you need to perform calibration
2. Where to find calibration codes
3. Video demonstration of the whole process
4. Official user manual about calibration check
1. When do you need to perform calibration
Medikro recommends that calibration check is performed in following situations:
- Always before the first spirometry study of the day
- When calibration code is different from previous on a new SpiroSafe box
- After changing the pressure tube
- After moving the device (e.g. from one examination room to another)
- When the device returns from maintenance
- When getting strange results during a spirometry test
2. Where to find calibration codes?
Every time a new package of SpiroSafe disposable flow transducers is opened, check the calibration code from the label attached to the outer surface of the package or individual SpiroSafe wrapping. If this LOT number or calibration code differs from the one currently used, a new calibration code must be taken into use before resuming the testing. Using a wrong calibration code may produce inaccurate data.
Example of the placement at the individual package and on the box:
3. Video demonstration
In this video we provide a video demonstration of how to perform calibration check, with and without the Bacterial & Viral filter on.

Video summary:
1. What items do you need for conducting the calibration check
2. How to connect system's elements together
3. How to start the process using the MSS (Medikro Spirometry Software)
4. Where to find calibration codes (on the packaging of SpiroSafe Flow Transducer). If you do not have the packaging, but know the lot number, you can also find the calibration code here.
5. Important tips to keep in mind for successful calibration process.
4. Official User Manual
We prepared and published the official manual, explaining the calibration check process and calibration syringe usage in detail. It is available here: Medikro Calibration Syringe User Manual. We recommend to rely on it as the most official source of information in case of any doubt.
